Job Overview
As an Indigenous Engagement Specialist at the National Capital Commission, you will play a key role in building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities. Your primary responsibility will be to provide advice and support to senior management on Indigenous engagement initiatives, including consultations, community relations, and toponomy projects.
Essential Qualifications
A degree in Communications, Indigenous Studies, Public Relations, Political Science, Environmental Studies, or Urban Planning is required. You must have a minimum of three years of experience in Indigenous engagement, stakeholder or community engagement and relations. Additionally, you should have experience in project management, event management, and developing consultation plans and written materials for various audiences.
Knowledge and Abilities
You should have a strong understanding of Indigenous communities, objectives, structures, and processes. You must be able to communicate effectively, facilitate meetings, and deliver presentations. You should also be able to manage risks, resolve complex issues, and interpret and apply relevant policies and legislation.
Competencies
You should demonstrate integrity and respect, think critically, and work effectively with others. You should also be able to show initiative and be action-oriented.
Assets
Knowledge of environmental legislation and processes relevant to Indigenous peoples' engagement and consultation is an asset. Experience working with federal departments, agencies, Crown corporations, and other levels of governance is also an asset.
Conditions of Employment
You must possess or be eligible to obtain Secret security clearance. You should have a linguistic profile of Bilingual BBB and be willing to work in the National Capital Region. The position requires you to reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
