About the Opportunity

Westinghouse Electric Canada is a leading supplier of custom equipment, process systems, and engineering consultant services for the Nuclear industry in Canada. We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our innovative team that supports Westinghouse's mission to provide clean energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
  2. Perform both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes & standards.
  3. Prepare clear and concise design reports and technical specifications.
  4. Review, approve, and seal design reports, technical documentation, and drawings.
  5. Drive innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems.
  6. Collaborate globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists.
  7. Support resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture, and testing of systems and/or components.
Requirements
  1. Mechanical Engineering degree or other relevant engineering discipline.
  2. Licensed member of Professional Engineers Ontario required.
  3. 6+ years of relevant experience.
  4. Experience in conceptual design development, design reviews, and engineering change control processes.
  5. Experience in the substantiation of custom equipment typically: steel structures, hoisting/lifting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems.
  6. Experience working within 3D CAD systems and with ANSYS (FEA).
  7. Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications, and associated inspection techniques.
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
  9. Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Application of the relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and systems including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment.
  2. Experience with software such as Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, and ANSYS (FEA).
  3. Experience in pressure retaining systems to CSA and ASME design codes.
  4. Experience interfacing with customer representatives and providing oversight to vendors.
  5. Experience with radiological shielding design and/or equipment.
