Job Summary

The Exercise Testing Technician plays a vital role in the Diagnostic Services program at Hamilton Health Sciences, working alongside specially trained physicians, technicians, and technologists to provide diagnostic testing for Cardiac, Pulmonary, and Neurological issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic exercise testing procedures, including Plain and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing, Stress Echo, and PV/ABI testing.
  • Explain procedures to patients, obtain informed consent, and ensure maximum performance.
  • Take patient histories, record medications, and obtain written consent.
  • Perform resting ECG/BP and examine for abnormalities.
  • Observe pulmonary function associated with exercise, including pre-/post- spirometry and max VO2.
  • Assist in determining the end point of exercise tolerance and quickly recognize cardiopulmonary emergencies.
  • Operate computers, metabolic measurement systems, bicycle, treadmill, and ECG monitoring systems.
  • Assist in training students and maintain departmental equipment and protocols.
Requirements
  • CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNICIAN diploma or equivalent with active registration and membership in good standing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cardiopulmonary function as it relates to diagnostic testing.
  • ECG interpretation skills and minimum one year recent experience in Exercise Stress Testing lab within the last five years.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment and demonstrate effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment and demonstrate initiative and judgment.
