Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Indigenous Student Support Worker to join our team at the York Region District School Board. This is a temporary full-time position, working 35 hours per week, with a one-year appointment ending June 27, 2025, with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support and guidance to Indigenous students, families, and staff to promote academic success and well-being.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local community resources and organizations to support students and families.
  • Advocate for Indigenous students and families, addressing systemic barriers and challenges in the education system.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to develop and implement culturally responsive programs and services.
  • Provide mentorship, advising, and advocacy to students, families, and staff.
Requirements
  • Deep understanding of Indigenous history, colonization, and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous world view and cultural practices.
  • Excellent organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with various stakeholders, including students, families, and staff.
  • Experience in handling contentious issues with sensitivity, confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will be offered a salary range of $70,957-$83,480 per year, in accordance with the PASS Terms of Employment.
