The Role


We are seeking an experienced Bartender to join our team at City Cruises in Toronto. As a key member of our hospitality team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to our guests, mixing high-quality beverages, and maintaining a safe and clean environment.


About the Opportunity


This is a seasonal/contract position that offers a competitive wage, retention bonus up to $(amount), complimentary cruise tickets and uniforms, crew meals, recognition awards, referral program up to $(amount) per referral, crew events, and paid training.


Responsibilities


You will be responsible for:



  • Providing exceptional hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in RESPECT Service System
  • Accurately following recipes for all beverages; must have thorough knowledge of all beverage offerings and prices
  • Providing prompt and consistent bar service to guests and servers throughout the cruise
  • Setting up and breaking down bar - stock and restock bar according to prescribed par specifications, cleaning bar thoroughly in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the bar and all common areas and service stations, cleaning glasses, utensils, bar equipment, bar tops, refrigerators, and all other equipment and work areas
  • Accurately charging guests for onboard purchases; entering order into the point-of-sale system, collecting payment and returning all change
  • Completing empty runs to the bunker in proper liquor/beer boxes after the cruise
  • Accurately counting bar inventory daily
  • Preparing alcoholic & non-alcoholic requisition form before the event starts
  • Picking up liquor, wine, beer & non-alcoholic beverages from the main storage room before the event starts
  • Polishing all glassware before/during/after cruise
  • Beer/Wine/Liquor receiving for deliveries as needed
  • Assisting server on clearing tables
  • Taking out the bar garbage
  • Organizing the empties storage as needed
  • Cleaning fridges, glass machine and ice machine weekly and other equipment required
  • Assisting/helping team to clean common areas
  • Bar operations shifts as scheduled
  • Providing information to guests including beverage and food menu descriptions, entertainment options, cruise route and points of interest
  • Training new staff as directed by manager on duty
  • Being prepared to begin work at scheduled time
  • Maintaining uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards
  • Assisting with the warm and efficient greeting and seating of guests when they arrive
  • FOLLOWING ESTABLISHED GUIDELINES, TAKES INITIATIVE ON WORK TO BE DONE
  • Understanding all policies and procedures relating to the crew's role within the company.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor on duty

Requirements & Qualifications


To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • One (1) year of bartending experience required
  • Or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education
  • Smart Serve Certification required
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of beverage recipes
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others
  • Will work for extended periods of time without sitting
  • Required to lift heavy items such as liquor boxes and ice bins up and down stairs
  • Responsible for bar till; proper cash handling is required
  • Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays and weekends
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 40 lbs (18 kgs)
  • If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)

Salary: $55,000-$65,000 per year, depending on experience
