Campus Security Officer Opportunity at Cape Breton University

Cape Breton University (CBU) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join the Emergency Management & Security Services team within Risk Management as a Campus Security Officer. This is a full-time limited term position for approximately 10 months located at the Cineplex.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Creating and fostering a safe and open campus community through education and promotion/enforcement of university regulations relating to safety and security.
  • Ensuring the safety of persons, protection of information, and protection of property.
  • Responding to emergencies, requests for assistance, traffic/parking control, and enforcement of CBU policies.
  • Investigating occurrences, preparing reports, engaging with the community, participating in regular foot patrols, and participating in the delivery of educational programs for students and employees.
Requirements:
  • Diploma or Certificate in policing, corrections or criminology; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid CPR, first aid and AED certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Proof of valid criminal record check.
  • Police, corrections, or security experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated initiative and proactive approach to security and safety.
  • Strong knowledge in security and in security systems, including the ability to provide accurate incident reports.
  • Strong community orientation.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills (listening to inquiries, probing for details, responsive to clients), mental awareness, and preparedness.
  • Physically fit.
  • Able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to your own safety and the safety of members of the public.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training.
  • Willingness to work a shift rotation including days/nights and weekends.
