Sign Language Professionals for Academic Settings

Habitat Learn Inc is seeking Sign Language Professionals to interpret in academic settings. The selected candidate will work with deaf and hard-of-hearing students, faculty, and staff at universities and colleges in the Oshawa area.
About the RoleThis is a part-time position that requires a minimum commitment of one academic semester. Assignments vary depending on student schedules and typically take place between 8am – 9pm, Monday to Saturday.
The successful candidate will be an active member of the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) with a minimum 2-year post-secondary diploma/degree from an accredited program.
Responsibilities- Provide sign language interpretation services to support equitable access to education.
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting services provided, including timesheets and invoices.
- Attend required meetings and trainings as specified by Habitat Learn Inc.
- Pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with new developments in the field of sign language interpretation.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in sign language interpretation, preferably in an academic environment.
- Sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities and ability to analyze information quickly.
- Able to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate diverse client needs.
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
We estimate the salary for this role to be around $50,000 - $60,000 per year, based on industry standards and location.
