About the Role:
Weatherford is seeking an experienced Taxation Specialist to join our team as a Senior Tax Manager. This role will be responsible for leading the tax function in Canada, ensuring compliance with all statutory tax filing requirements and managing the overall tax reporting process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and submission of the corporation's quarterly and annual tax provisions, including US GAAP tax accounting requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of all tax returns and monitor compliance with Canadian statutory tax filing requirements.
- Develop and implement internal tax policies and standards across all entities in the region.
- Supervise local tax professionals and liaise with remote shared services tax personnel to support area tax objectives.
- Collaborate with co-sourced tax providers to ensure accurate reporting and minimize penalties.
- Provide technical support for the Finance team on Canadian GST & sales tax compliance.
- Handle tax queries from various operational product lines.
- Conduct technical reviews of contracts/tender documentation to determine tax effects/risks.
- Identify opportunities to mitigate tax risks and minimize tax liability.
Requirements:
- 7-15 years combined experience with Big 4 public accounting firm and industry.
- Prior working experience with a multinational organization, preferably US based, and matrix organization.
- Strong technical background in Canadian income tax and indirect tax technical issues.
- Expertise in US GAAP, FAS 109, ASC 740, preparing and reviewing tax provisions for large multinational companies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint).
- Ability to use initiative, judgement, and work with minimum supervision.
- Strong analytical awareness and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Management experience over a small team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley Requirements.
- Advanced Excel.
- Knowledge of accounting systems (preferably J.D. Edwards and Hyperion).
- Knowledge of tax provision software (preferably Onesource).
- Second language in French and/or Spanish.
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting, Finance, and or other business-related field.
Estimated Salary Range: $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience.
