Job Responsibilities

As an integral part of the estimating team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to support day-to-day functions, assist in organizing and maintaining company estimating documents, and provide administrative support as required.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quantity take-offs and estimated costs of materials, labor, for custom structural steel.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and estimated costs of materials, and labor, for miscellaneous steel.
  • Provide administrative support to the estimating team as required.
  • Organize and track bid invitations for the estimating team.
  • Download and update bidding documents, maintaining digital and physical estimating folders and calendars.
  • Correspond with suppliers/subcontractors and clients, updating information as necessary.
  • Attend meetings, creating meeting minutes as required.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A completion of post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Structural Steel Management & Detailing, Construction Management, Estimating, or Construction/Architectural related education.
  • Experience in Estimating or similar roles.
  • Blueprint reading and comprehension skills, with an understanding of construction scopes.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and technical writing skills.
  • Able to think ahead proactively, with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Strong computer literacy and use of MS Office programs, with experience with Auto CAD and Bluebeam preferred.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet client project commitments.

Additional Information:

  • Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
  • Pay: $53,934.00-$70,932.00 per year
  • Benefits: Dental care, Extended health care, Life insurance
  • Flexible language requirement: French not required
  • Schedule: 8 hour shift, Day shift, Monday to Friday, Weekends as needed
  • Ability to commute/relocate: Nanaimo, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work
