Job Summary:

The Congress Indigenous Programming Specialist will play a key role in enhancing Congress outreach and engagement within Indigenous communities. This role involves planning and executing community outreach campaigns, developing communications, and integrating Indigenous cultural perspectives into program designs and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, leaders, and organizations to understand their needs, perspectives, and priorities for Congress.
  • Produce content and contribute editorial work for Congress-related communications and publications.
  • Work with Indigenous Initiatives to identify Elders to be invited to participate in Congress 2025 for opening ceremony and across Congress.
  • Support the outreach plans to increase awareness of initiatives and services held for Indigenous communities at Congress.
  • Serve as a liaison and advocate for Indigenous communities at Congress, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create resources and materials that support outreach efforts and promote the engagement and importance of Indigenous communities at Congress.
  • Monitor program effectiveness, collect feedback, and evaluate outcomes to continuously improve initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Three-year diploma or degree in the fields of Communication, Humanities, Indigenous Studies, or Sociology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in community outreach, engagement, or advocacy, particularly within Indigenous communities or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in coordinating and marketing events within post-secondary environment or equivalent.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students or external members in a post-secondary environment and an understanding of the barriers and challenges Indigenous communities experience both in educational settings and in the community.
