Actuarial Consultant/Senior Actuarial Analyst

Wawanesa Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Actuarial Consultant or Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our Pricing Research and Development team. As a key member of this team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our pricing sophistication through the development of loss cost models and collaborating closely with pricing leaders to optimize rate changes for our members.
Key Responsibilities- Analytical Research: Extracts, manipulates, and assesses complex data from relevant sources, and evaluates data quality to support business and team objectives.
- Process Improvement: Evaluates existing processes to identify areas for increased efficiency, and recommends alternatives or improvements to enhance productivity.
- Industry Insights: Identifies emerging industry trends and analyzes their impact on Wawanesa, representing the company at external events as needed.
- Commitment to Learning: Commits to professional development and continuous experiential learning to build cross-functional knowledge, technical skills, and mastery in competencies.
- Stakeholder Management: Provides regular project updates to stakeholders, anticipating obstacles and raising them in advance.
- Project Management: Leads projects from beginning to end, including implementation of final products and training documentation.
- Mentorship: Actively contributes to the mentorship, training, and development of actuarial analysts.
- Coaching & Developing Others: Provides feedback, instruction, and development guidance to help others excel in their current or future job responsibilities.
- Leadership: Builds trust and credibility with peers, developing strong working relationships across teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related discipline.
- More than four years of actuarial experience an asset.
- 7 CAS exams or ACAS designation an asset.
- Experience with machine learning modeling or other pricing modeling methods and software.
- Ability to translate problem-solving methods and ideas to various computer languages efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to apply knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance, and business to problems in insurance.
- Understanding of database systems and how to interpret/extract data from those systems.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at the right level of complexity for the audience.
- Ability to develop timelines for projects and handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner while proactively keeping leaders informed of progress.
- Works efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment, involving others when appropriate.
- Ability to ask effective questions to elicit detailed and relevant information.
