Job Summary

DarkVision, a leading innovator in ultrasonic imaging technologies, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge products. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical parts and assemblies for our ultrasonic imaging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies for ultrasonic imaging technologies, including electronics packaging, pressure vessel design, and sensor carriers.
  • Perform engineering calculations to assess system viability and performance, including the use of numerical tools such as FEA.
  • Analyze mechanical assemblies to determine the appropriate level of tolerancing required to obtain functional parts.
  • Produce professional mechanical drawings of custom parts for external contract manufacturers.
  • Collaborate with external contract manufacturers to source custom and off-the-shelf components.
  • Leverage in-house prototyping capabilities, including 3D printers and CNC machines, for rapid testing and iteration on new concepts and improvements.
  • Collaborate with broader engineering teams to gather cross-functional design requirements and communicate design interdependencies and tradeoffs.
  • Assemble prototypes of new products or improvements to existing products, and support their testing and validation.
  • Determine appropriate testing requirements for new devices and assist with designing custom test equipment.
  • Occasionally travel to field offices to support final testing and commissioning of devices prior to commercial deployment.

Requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Engineering Physics.
  • Professional experience in creating 3D models and assemblies using CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, or Creo.
  • Experience designing electromechanical assemblies, including electronics packaging and thermal management systems.
  • Understanding of design considerations for various manufacturing methods, including CNC machining, 3D printing, and laser/waterjet cutting.
  • Experience designing sealing solutions for various applications, including mechanical seals and gaskets.
  • Experience creating appropriately toleranced 2D drawings to outsource custom parts fabrication.
  • Hands-on experience with assembling and testing prototypes, using benchtop tools including multimeters, function generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • 8+ years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
  • Masters degree in a related field.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or other technical programming languages for data processing and analysis.
  • Experience working on imaging technologies, particularly ultrasonic NDT/NDE.
