Experimental Physicist

We are seeking a highly skilled Experimental Physicist to join our Processor Development team at D-Wave Quantum Inc. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to our understanding of sources of noise and decoherence in our quantum processors through careful measurement of superconducting qubits.
About the Role:- Create and execute experimental procedures, analysis routines, and noise models to characterize and understand coherence in superconducting qubits.
- Propose and develop parametric designs, materials changes, and/or experimental methodologies to improve coherence and thereby processor performance.
- Investigate and diagnose interactions between superconducting circuits, IO, electronics, cryogenic elements, etc. that impact noise performance.
- Share your results and ideas with the broader PD team through regular and clear documentation.
- Create and contribute to Lisp software infrastructure for modeling, calibrating, and operating qubits and processors.
- Ph.D. or M.Sc in physics or a related discipline, or equivalent experimental research experience.
- Background in quantum information, control of quantum systems, or magnetic resonance methods (such as NMR or ESR).
- Strong critical thinking and technical problem-solving ability.
- Curiosity and persistence that enable you to learn new technical topics in depth, as evidenced by a deep understanding of your existing area(s) of expertise.
- Strong experience with software in the context of a physical lab – particularly in writing code to control experiments; software engineering skills would be an asset.
- A collaborative mindset and a demonstrated ability to work effectively on an interdisciplinary team and take shared accountability for its success.
- Excellent communication skills and experience with summarizing technical information for a broad audience.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a time-sensitive environment, while maintaining focus on challenging problems.
- Exceptional candidates will have a solid background in one or more of the following: superconducting devices, device physics, device manufacturing, noise models, and characterization.
Compensation: $95,000 - $150,000 a year
