Tire Technician Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Tire Technician to join our team at Kal Tire. As a Tire Technician, you will be responsible for providing exceptional tire service and repair for mining tires, adhering to our work and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Service Excellence: Provide top-notch tire service and repair to meet customer needs.
• Tire Shop Work: Learn and perform all aspects of tire shop work related to customer sites.
• Assist Mine Maintenance: Assist mine maintenance staff as required.
• Maintenance of Tools and Equipment: Perform appropriate maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Tire Inspection and Maintenance: Maintain appropriate tire inspection and maintenance programs on site.
• Best Practices: Demonstrate and promote best practices to the customer.

Operational / Technical:

• Dismount and Mount Tires: Dismount and mount tires for a variety of vehicles for the mining tire industry.
• Tire Mounting Safety: Ensure that all tires are mounted safely and according to load requirements.
• Equipment Checks: Perform equipment checks and calibrations.
• Wheel Fitting and Removal: Fit and remove wheels from any type of vehicle.
• Tire Assembly: Mount and strip any type of tire and assemble rims.
• Tire Balancing: Balance any type of tire and rim assembly.
• Tire Repairs: Perform repairs to tires and tubes.
• Wheel Component Inspection: Perform inspections and determine the suitability of wheel components to remain in service.
• Tire Servicing Equipment: Operate heavy-duty tire servicing equipment and tools.
• Maintenance Checks: Conduct maintenance checks and ensure all work is done according to Kal Tire work and safety standards.
• Reporting and Logging: Complete required reporting and logging of data, as required.
• Warehouse Maintenance: Ensure the warehouse is maintained in an orderly, clean, and safe manner.
• Tire-Related Equipment Stock: Assist in maintaining stock for tire-related equipment.

Health, Safety & Environment:

• Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and requirements.
• Hygiene Standards: Ensure that hygiene standards are maintained in the facility.
• Hazard Reporting: Report hazards, unsafe work conditions and equipment to your Supervisor/lead hand so the appropriate action to eliminate or reduce the risk to acceptable levels.
• Incident Reporting: Report all incidents and injuries according to procedures.
• Safety Representative: Assist and co-operate with the site safety representative to resolve safety issues identified.
• Personal Protective Equipment: Always use and maintain Personal Protective Equipment.
• Vehicle Pre-Start Checks: Perform vehicle Pre-start checks according to procedures.
• Safety Meetings and Inspections: Actively participate in regular meetings and inspections in order to promote and improve safety in the workplace and document accordingly.
• Incident Notices: Read and confirm incident notices and other safety information conveyed to all personnel.
• Emergency Evacuation Procedures: Comply with site emergency evacuation procedures.

Key Performance Indicators:

• Safety Standards: All safety standards are followed, and work is performed without incident to team, equipment or tires.
• Tire Service Tools and Equipment: Correct and safe use of tire service tools and equipment are performed.
• LMS and Velocity: LMS and Velocity are used monthly as per guidelines.
• Tire Repair Efficiency: Tires are repaired efficiently to meet the needs of the customer.
• Team Contribution: Team member contributes to the smooth operations of the Kal Tire Shop.

Work Experience:

• Related Experience: At least two years of related experience with direct experience as a tire technician preferred.
• OTR Service Training and Certifications: OTR service training and certifications desired.
• Tire Manipulators, Forklifts, and Service Trucks: Experience operating and maintaining tire manipulators, forklifts, and service trucks.
• Safety Procedures: Experience working in an environment where safety procedures are a key part of daily operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Physical Ability: Able to physically perform the duties of an OTR Tire Technician safely.
• Licenses and Certificates: Able to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses, certificates as required to perform the duties as required to work at mine sites.
• Mechanically Related Tasks: Able to perform mechanically related tasks.
• Safety Procedures: Able to follow all safety procedures and work in a safe manner.
• Results-Oriented Environment: Able to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment as part of a team.
• Problem-Solving: Must be a self-starter and willing to take the initiative, solve problems, be able and willing to work without direct supervision, and be willing to attend appropriate training sessions.
• Tire Failure Causes and Analysis: Understand tire failure causes and analysis.
• Communication Skills: Good communication skills and ability to express themselves well both verbally and in writing.
• Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Good literacy and numeracy skills.

Special Requirements:

• Valid Driver's License: Valid driver's license and ability to comply with relevant insurance policies.

Education:

• Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent: Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
• Additional Certification and Training: Additional certification and training preferred.

Compensation:

Competitive wages; this position starts at $31.65-43.56 /hour, we offer a clear path for career advancement with wage increases along the way.
