Job Title: Executive Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead our client, the Newfoundland and Labrador Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA), in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

About NAIA

NAIA is a member-based organization that represents the interests of seafood farmers and their suppliers in Newfoundland and Labrador. Our mission is to promote the responsible development of the aquaculture industry and advocate for our members' interests.

Job Summary

The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the strategic direction of NAIA, working closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a vision for the organization. This includes financial management, HR management, operations, project management, membership engagement, public relations, partnership development, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic plan for NAIA.
  • Board Governance: Work with the Board to ensure effective governance, including policy development and review.
  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial management of NAIA, including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a high-performing team, fostering a positive and collaborative work culture.
  • Operations and Project Management: Lead operational plans, services, and project budgets to promote opportunities for aquaculture in NL.
  • Membership Engagement: Grow and retain members who have an interest in the aquaculture industry in NL.
  • Public Relations and Advocacy: Serve as the primary spokesperson for NAIA, representing and advocating the views and interests of the organization.
  • Partnership Development: Develop and maintain strong collaborative relations with key stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, monitor, and limit risk exposure associated with financial, operational, cybersecurity, and reputational challenges.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in member relations, public advocacy, networking, and collaborative government relations.
  • Knowledge of the seafood industry, including familiarity with provincial and federal regulatory regimes.
  • Well-developed communication, media relations, public speaking, and facilitation skills.
  • Substantial experience in strategic planning, leading people, financial operations, and project execution.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter who demonstrates passion for the work, takes initiative, and can multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills through conflict resolution, advisory services, and coaching.
  • Familiarity with not-for-profit member-based organizations and/or association operations.
