Job Summary

The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cashier to join our team. As a Cashier, you will be responsible for preparing daily bank deposits, controlling house funds, and issuing, auditing, and maintaining all hotel banks according to company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile daily cash submissions from various departments and consolidate bank deposits in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and issue due-backs to hotel cashiers as required and maintain secure storage for issued due-backs.
  • Prepare and maintain Over/Short Reports by cashier on a daily basis.
  • Count and document hotel floats on a regular basis according to established company guidelines.
  • Maintain House Bank agreements in the Finance office and issue cashier safety deposit for bank safekeeping as required.
  • Prepare and maintain contracts and logs for issued house banks.
  • Make petty cash disbursements according to established guidelines.
  • Adhere to hotel procedures for cash handling, cheque cashing, and petty disbursements.
  • Control and maintain gift cards and gift certificates.
  • Ensure current exchange rates are posted correctly and all foreign currencies and cheques are deposited in a timely manner.
  • Count and document the General Cashier float at the end of each shift.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner at all times to reflect the high standards of the company.
  • Prepare monthly summaries of float counts and report any discrepancies to appropriate managers.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in accounting is required.
  • Previous banking experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, Micros, and OPERA or similar operating systems is required.
  • Some post-secondary accounting education background is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, detail-oriented, and a team player.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Standard shift is Monday to Friday.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
  • Occasional afternoons, weekends, and holiday work may be required.
