Job Summary
As a key member of our mobile housekeeping unit, you will be responsible for carrying out cleaning and service work in various residence areas. This role requires observing safe working conditions and habits, and you may be assigned to work on day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends. You will work from oral and written instructions, schedules, and specific requirements, which may be of a daily and periodic nature, and according to established procedures.

Organizational Status
You will report to the Housekeeping Supervisor, Assistant Housekeeping Supervisor, or Manager.

Work Performed
You will be responsible for requesting and receiving materials and equipment for assigned work, maintaining an adequate level of cleaning supplies and equipment, and ensuring that equipment is in good operating condition. Your duties will include cleaning and service work in living accommodations, suites, washrooms, kitchens, meeting rooms, porches, entranceways, lobbies, hallways, corridors, common areas, social wings, game rooms, laundry rooms, storage rooms, workout rooms, and other designated areas in residences and housing units. This will involve tasks such as cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, washing, vacuuming, polishing, disinfecting, and scrubbing all surfaces of floors, walls, fixtures, and furniture, as well as operating light or heavy-duty hand or power-operated cleaning equipment, replenishing supplies, and removing old wax and polish coatings from floor fixtures or furniture and re-waxing or polishing. You will also be responsible for cleaning and washing interior and exterior accessible windows and other glass surfaces, rearranging, moving, and setting up furniture and equipment as required, making beds, changing linen, and returning soiled linens to designated collection areas, distributing linen and collecting laundry, collecting garbage and waste, including tidying and cleaning ashtrays, emptying waste receptacles, and depositing them in containers or pick-up points, cleaning vents in buildings and all drains, cleaning and servicing washrooms, putting up and replacing signs on notice boards, doors, or other easily reachable surfaces as required, sweeping and cleaning sidewalks and related areas, and cleaning snow when required. You will also perform minor maintenance and repairs, including tasks such as hammering in nails, hanging pictures, drapes, and blinds, oiling hinges and locks, changing light bulbs, tightening screws on fixtures, minor furniture repairs and adjustments, replacing door stops, adjusting door closures, unplugging toilets, removing broken glass from windows, removing and cleaning light fixtures, changing broken switch and wall plug covers, and submitting reports regarding maintenance or repairs needed to buildings and utilities and reporting signs of failure or abuse of fixtures and furnishings. You will also report any unusual circumstances related to building security, ensure that doors and windows are properly secured, attend to guest requests and their needs as appropriate, and carry out any other related duties and necessary in keeping with the requirements and qualifications for the job.

Supervision Received
You will receive specific instructions only on new or unusual problems and are expected to develop appropriate work procedures.

You may oversee the work of unskilled workers.

Minimum Qualifications
You must have completion of Grade 10 and a minimum of one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You must also be willing to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with your own, and demonstrate a commitment to enhancing your own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Preferred qualifications include experience in institutional janitorial work or hotel experience, general knowledge of cleaning rules and regulations, security and safety policies and procedures, ability to meet physical requirements involving considerable walking, climbing, and manual work, bondability, and the ability to follow instructions and adopt new methods and practices. You must also be able to work with others, communicate in English effectively verbally and in writing, and be available to work weekends and may be required to work evenings.
