Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Early Childhood Educator with Special Needs expertise to join our team at Island Health. As a Special Needs Educator, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and education to children with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans for children with special needs.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care and support to children and their families.
  • Provide direct education and care to children with special needs, including those with physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities.
  • Assess and address the educational and emotional needs of children with special needs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with families and caregivers to ensure seamless care and support.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in early childhood education and special needs care.
Requirements
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education from a recognized post-secondary institution and a Special Needs Education certificate.
  • Valid Licenses to practice in BC as an Early Childhood Educator and Special Needs Educator.
  • Three to five years recent related experience working with children with special needs.
  • Valid First-Aid Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to organize work and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others, including children, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to orient, instruct, and evaluate students and volunteers.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Functional use of alternative modes of communication such as sign language.
