About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

The ideal candidate will have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a basic understanding of medical terminology. You will also have the ability to work independently, use good judgment, and maintain a professional appearance.

About You
  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment
  • Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects
  • Ability to accurately number/label specimens and file slides/requisitions
  • Ability to adapt to updates/changes in operating procedures
  • Basic computer skills, Meditech experience is preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation as travel may be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours

Ten (10) Permanent Full Time Positions - 100% - Laboratory Client & Support

One (1) Permanent Part Time Position - 80% - Laboratory Client & Support

Four (4) Permanent Part Time Positions - 50% - Laboratory Client & Support

Five (5) Permanent Part Time Positions - 50% - Dartmouth General Hospital

One (1) Permanent Full Time Position - 100% - Dartmouth General Hospital

One (1) Permanent Full Time Position - 100% - Microbiology

One (1) Permanent Part Time Position - 90% - Cobequid Community Health Centre

Compensation and Benefits

$26.27 hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
