The Government of Alberta seeks a skilled and experienced Chief Operations Strategist to join their team in Edmonton. As a key member of the Department of Health, this role will play a critical part in shaping the strategic direction of the ministry.

Salary: $111,558.45 per year (based on 36.25 hours per week)

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned leader to provide support, advice, and consultation to the Associate Deputy Minister on strategies, issues, and policies related to the ministry's strategic direction and program development.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leadership and experience working in a multifaceted, fast-paced environment. They will be able to identify key issues, including legal implications, risks, and mitigation strategies, and provide comprehensive information and advice in support of strategic and operational planning and decision making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Associate Deputy Minister on key issues and initiatives
  • Lead the tracking, timing, and delivery of key deliverables
  • Supervise the Associate Deputy Minister's Office and ensure effective communication with stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other Director of Executive Operations to ensure coordination on departmental initiatives
  • Brief the Associate Deputy Minister, as well as the Minister and executive team on policy and program issues
Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a university graduation in a related field supplemented by a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have issues management experience in a public sector organization.

A strong understanding of the policy development cycle, decision-making process, and legislative procedures is also essential. Experience working in a law enforcement or criminal justice environment will be considered an asset.
