Job Summary

Vertex is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Environmental Scientist to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area. The ideal candidate will have experience in plant, wetland, and wildlife identification, soil classification, and detailed site assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork, including plant and invasive species identification, wildlife identification, and wetland identification and delineation.
  • Support Vertex field leads conducting Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
  • Collect and analyze data, including soil classification and weed spraying.
  • Monitor soil conservation and reclamation activities.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and detailed records of fieldwork and data collection.

Requirements

  • Diploma or higher post-secondary education in Reclamation, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Biological Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or other applicable fields.
  • Understanding of remote area navigation and experience using maps, compass, GPS, and aerial photos for navigation in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive trucks and/or various off-road vehicles in rough terrain.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to interpret environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated communication and decision-making skills.
