About the Role

As a Senior Business Analyst, Commercial Mortgages, you will play a key role in managing the key functions to ensure loan renewals, assumptions, loan application and loan payout reviews are completed in accordance with the established procedures and policies for the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect relevant information and prepare underwriting summaries to assist in the origination, renewal, and annual review processes;
  • Draft letter of intent offers and mortgage commitment letters in accordance with terms approved by the portfolio manager;
  • Assist in the review, management, and documentation requirements of loan payout and extension requests;
  • Provide oversight and assist in the preparation, assessment, and loading of operating statements and leases into the loan management systems as required;
  • Review and assess loan assumption requests as received, including reviews of loan underwriting, property purchase agreements and the financial capabilities and credit quality of the purchaser;
  • Ensure that all documentation relative to mortgage investments is properly prepared and safeguarded;
  • Work directly with funding and administration personnel to achieve timely and accurate loan funding and processing;
  • Assist in the ongoing development and management of portfolio analytics projects as needed;
  • Assist in the preparation of client reports and weekly/quarterly market analysis and market report preparation;
  • Provide mentorship, backup and, where necessary, decisions on complex issues for other Analysts;
  • Keep current on real estate market changes across the country through the receipt and review of marketing reporting from various third parties, completing an analysis for the portfolio managers on a quarterly basis.

Requirements

  • University degree – Business Administration, Finance or related discipline;
  • A CFA designation or the enrollment in the CFA program and completion of the designation within 5 years of employment or demonstrated proficiency through progressive roles from related work experience;
  • A minimum of 5 years commercial mortgage experience; with prior loan funding experience considered an asset;
  • Experience in the banking, real estate, commercial appraisal or construction industry would be an asset;
  • Completion of the University of BC Mortgage Brokerage course within 18 months of hiring is required or equivalent experience;
  • Superior analytical and computer skills with Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Superior written and verbal skills;
  • Fluency in the French Language is considered an asset.
