Neonatal Intensive Care Specialist Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team at McMaster Children's Hospital.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment, providing high-quality respiratory care to critically ill newborns and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients in the NICU, including ventilation management, oxygen therapy, and aerosolized medications.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized patient plans.
  • Conduct regular assessments and monitoring of patients' respiratory status, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
  • Educate nurses, other healthcare professionals, and students on respiratory care best practices.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A graduate degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP).
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a Level 3 NICU within the last two years is preferred. Additionally, experience attending high-risk deliveries within the same timeframe is also desirable.
