About the Position

We are seeking a skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join our team in the Policy, Regulations and Process Branch in City-Wide and Regional Planning. As an Urban Planning Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing regulations and amendments to the City's Zoning & Development By-law, city-wide by-laws, and land use policies. You will also scope, prepare, and manage work programs involving in-depth research, analysis, and preparation of recommendations involving regulation and policy changes.

This position involves identifying opportunities to reconcile conflicts between land use policies and coordinating a resolution. You will provide advice and support to other work groups with respect to policy coordination, development, and implementation. You will establish collaborative working relationships among staff work groups and departments to assess and consider impacts of new regulations and policies on existing by-laws, policies, and processes. You will liaise with, coordinate, and synthesize inputs from other divisions within planning, urban design, and sustainability and other City Departments.

The ideal candidate will have a university graduate degree in planning or related studies, extensive experience in planning, eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planning, demonstrated research and analytical skills, proven ability developing planning policies, zoning, regulations, and guidelines, effective communication skills, and the ability to design and lead public consultation processes.
