The Coalition is a leading game development studio within Xbox Game Studios, renowned for its critically acclaimed Gears of War series. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Gameplay Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of Gears of War: E-Day, the next mainline entry in the franchise.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in gameplay development, who can work closely with designers, animators, and other engineers to create outstanding gameplay experiences. The successful candidate will have a passion for player-first experiences and be able to solve complex problems with minimal oversight in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive multiple complex feature areas end-to-end, ensuring high-quality delivery and meeting project timelines.
  • Collaborate with content and design teams to design, implement, and maintain new gameplay features, leveraging expertise in C++, Blueprints, and custom tools.
  • Analyze single and multi-threaded performance issues, working with other engineers to resolve them and optimize game performance.
  • Participate in code reviews with the engineering team, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical discipline, with 4+ years of technical engineering experience and coding in C++. OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience working on at least one AAA game on core gameplay features.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and mathematics commonly used in gameplay and computer animation.
  • Deep knowledge of one or more core technical gameplay areas - AI, Animation, Physics, Characters, Cameras, Network Replication.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Comfortable working closely with designers and content developers, understanding requirements, and guiding towards workable solutions.
  • Comfortable owning and driving complex features across multiple teams to high quality.
  • Extensive debugging and optimization skills in a multi-threaded environment.
  • Experience with multiplayer gameplay development.
