Job Summary

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide essential support to students with exceptional needs, promoting their academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement modified programs, ensuring students receive the necessary accommodations to succeed.
  • Assist with academic support, including reading, writing, and math skills development.
  • Participate in pool programs, physiotherapy exercises, and other activities designed to promote student well-being and engagement.
  • Support students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other challenges, adapting programs to meet their unique needs.
  • Perform yard duties, lifting, toileting, and other tasks as required.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with school-aged special needs children.
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C.
  • Completed training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, students, and parents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software.
  • Experience with assistive technology, including SEA Computers and iPad training.
  • Ability to provide academic support for modified programs.
  • Excellent sense of humor and a genuine team player.
