Senior Utility Operations Manager

This position reports directly to the Division Manager for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Utilities at Black & McDonald Limited. The position involves management of all aspects of NB Utility. Key responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate utility projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget.
  • Business Development: Maintain business relations with all key house and target accounts as well as to encourage, participate and promote the development of new and unique business opportunities.
  • Estimating and Scheduling: Oversee and/or prepare project estimates, final bids, and proposal submissions. Oversee and/or prepare project schedules and monitor progress.
  • Contract Management: Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Health, Safety and Environment: Adhere to and implement health, safety and environment policies and programs.
  • Quality Control: Adhere to and implement quality control programs.
  • Representation: Represent company on matters such as business services and union contracts negotiation.
  • Reporting and Financial Management: Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients. Direct the purchase of supplies and materials. Oversee department financial performance, i.e. accounts receivable, work in progress, and budget.
  • Staff Supervision: Hire and supervise the activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff.

Education Requirements

  • Licensed Tradesperson or Technical diploma or Engineering Degree
  • Between 5 and 10 years of electrical or utility experience
  • Proven skills in construction scheduling, planning and execution
  • Excellent communications and leadership skills
  • Budget and financial understanding
  • Must be committed to traveling throughout the province on a regular basis
