Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Industrial Design Manager - Transit Facilities to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for leading the design of transit facility-focused projects, including vehicle and transit maintenance facilities for heavy rail, subway, LRT, and Bus-based systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all conceptual and detail design aspects of vehicle and transit maintenance facilities for small to medium and large projects.
- Provide guidance and specialty facility design services to multi-disciplines design team.
- Independently coordinate the work of professional staff and balance the team throughout the entire project's development.
- Participate in leading concept/design meetings with various clients and architects.
- Coordinate workload through the entire project development for completing documents on schedule.
- Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the budget.
- Serve as the design manager of the production team when requested by the overall Project Manager.
- Facility programming, report writing, site master planning, developing specifications and construction documents.
- Selection, coordination, and layout of various aspects of facilities design (vehicle maintenance equipment, site flow, etc.).
- Submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs review.
- Conduct construction field observations.
- Other design/engineering tasks as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture.
- A minimum of 15 years experience on industrial/transit facility and civil engineering design projects.
- Strong background in multi-discipline design including architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and fire protection.
- Experience in cost control, scheduling, and risk management.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be a team player and a self-starter.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
- P.Eng. or Registered Architect.
- Experience working on TTC, Metrolinx, CN, VIA, CP, and Translink projects.
- Command of Revit and AutoCAD, and knowledge of SketchUp.
