About the Role

The St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is seeking a highly skilled Midwife Hospitalist to support our discharge planning and community visiting program within the Women's Health and Newborn Care Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate early discharge for low-risk obstetric and newborn patients, arranging follow-up care in either our hospital-based clinic or in the patient's home.
  • Perform weight checks, blood work on newborns, and postnatal obstetric care, ensuring seamless transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide 7 days of post-discharge follow-up, fostering a strong bond with families and promoting optimal health outcomes.
  • Offer expert feeding support for newborns, empowering parents to make informed decisions about their child's nutrition.
  • Assist with patient navigation, connecting families with vital community resources and supports.
  • Conduct Non-Stress Tests (NSTs) as needed, utilizing your expertise to ensure accurate assessments.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams during Caesarean sections, promoting skin-to-skin contact in the OR.
  • Provide grief and bereavement support to families, including postnatal home visits, demonstrating empathy and compassion.
  • Support the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic, contributing to comprehensive women's health services.
  • Organize group visits and peer support groups, fostering a sense of community among families.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives, driving excellence in patient care and clinical outcomes.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold an Undergraduate degree in Midwifery, with a Master's degree preferred.
  • A Regulated Health Professional with the College of Midwives of Ontario and professional membership with the Association of Ontario Midwives are essential.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice in midwifery, with experience in a full scope hospital setting, is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are crucial, with a proven track record of collaborative partnerships.
  • Ongoing professional development, continuing education, and leadership experience are highly valued.

Compensation Package

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, as well as opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
