Facility Operations Overview

The Facilities Operations Technician is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities, including mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves performing structured inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, and routine and on-demand services on facility mechanical equipment and other systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform work in accordance with established processes and practices.
  • Comply with all internal and external requirements, including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection regulations.
  • Conduct regular facility, mechanical, and other equipment and systems monitoring inspections to ensure facility uptime objectives are met and client operations are uninterrupted.
  • Respond to routine and on-demand service requests and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on facility mechanical equipment and other systems.
  • Monitor assigned facilities by conducting facility walkthroughs for mechanical, electrical, and other equipment system monitoring and inspection.
  • Operate facility mechanical and other systems.
  • Manage work order life cycle, progressing work from dispatched to completion, and record resolution data within our service maintenance management database.
  • Assist in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) programs, ensuring deficiencies are identified, recorded, and escalated, and related documents are maintained.

Client Relations

  • Assist in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services delivered.

Administration

  • Participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection, and other applicable requirements.
  • Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for repair and replacement as needed.
  • Submit all expenditures on a timely basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus trades training and/or certification or licensing.
  • Experience providing preventive and corrective maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
  • Sound knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and other building systems and equipment.
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset.
  • Strong client-service orientation and a high sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC Systems.
  • Effective communication skills for data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
  • Mentoring skills to support lower-level technician development.
  • Ability to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby, and emergency call-outs as needed.
  • Strict adherence to Health and Safety policies, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to obtain appropriate security clearance.
  • Valid driver's license.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Power Engineer 5th Class as a minimum requirement.
  • Power Engineer 4th Class considered a strong asset.
  • Building Operator Certification or equivalent through an accredited institution.
  • Provincial HVAC or apprentice license (e.g., Gasfitter I & II license, refrigeration license) considered an asset.
