Job Summary

We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you'll be responsible for providing technical direction and system-level expertise across development teams working on the design and development of complex medical device systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and system-level expertise across development teams working on the design and development of complex medical device systems.
  • Facilitate cross-functional decision-making on challenging technical issues with long-term impact and communicate these decisions effectively.
  • Secure agreement on technical strategies across functional management and business leadership teams.
  • Specify the architecture and design of these systems, including physical and functional approaches and the management of all system interfaces.
  • Lead the integration of system elements, including internally and externally sourced items comprising both hardware and software components.
  • Lead the deployment of Systems Engineering best practices across projects, including system concepting and design, requirement elicitation, and sustainable documentation.
  • Manage technical progress on projects by understanding and troubleshooting issues as they arise and communicating status to key project stakeholders.
  • Solve system problems through simulation, mathematical analysis, and/or systems interaction testing/analysis and provide recommendations for corrective action.
  • Define system partitioning (i.e., hardware/software partitioning) and coordinate total system integration.
  • Mentor other engineers on practices/methodologies related to your domain knowledge.
  • Coordinate system testing including characterization, verification, and validation.
  • Participate in the Risk Analysis discussions for the project.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 10 or more years of engineering experience developing and specifying HW/SW systems.
  • Proven experience in leading complex system analysis from concept through commercialization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for solving problems.
  • Strong proficiency in creating and improving system and product requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including problem resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS/PhD in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 10 or more years of experience in a formal Systems Engineering role.
  • Medical Device industry experience in design controls with a focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design, and traceability.
  • Experience with risk management, including the identification of effective risk controls.
  • Experience in human factors engineering, usability, or ergonomic design.
  • Experience specifying and supporting cybersecurity design principles.
  • Proven project leader with experience leading teams on high-visibility/high-priority new technology ventures.
