Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Sous Chef to oversee daily kitchen operations for our newest brand: Factor (factormeals.ca). As a key member of our Kitchen Operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality standards, efficiency, and consistency in our food preparation process.
Responsibilities- Train, coach, and develop a team of hourly kitchen employees to maintain high-performance standards.
- Manage performance metrics on safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and morale, providing regular progress reports to the Executive Chef and driving continuous improvement.
- Maintain upkeep of the kitchen, including equipment and inventory, to ensure optimal working conditions.
- Ensure the kitchen operates with the highest health and safety standards, aligning with federal and provincial regulations.
- Track and manage food storage, rotation, and quality to minimize waste and maintain product freshness.
- Collaborate with other departments to execute plant-wide process improvement initiatives, optimizing production workflows and enhancing customer satisfaction.
- Make in-flight adjustments as needed to ensure production stays on track and goals are met, adapting to changing circumstances.
- Work in all areas of the production facility, including refrigerated spaces, performing tasks ranging from receiving ingredients to packaging, preparation, cooking, plating, and order packing.
- Comply with OH&S acts and regulations, utilizing personal protective equipment and reporting workplace hazards and dangers to supervisors or employers.
- A minimum of 2+ years' experience as a Sous Chef in a commissary kitchen with high-volume food preparation, demonstrating expertise in kitchen management and leadership.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite applications, including spreadsheets, slides, and other productivity tools.
- Able to lead, train, and develop a large group of employees, managing an active kitchen environment with ease.
- A problem-solving mentality, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Strong communication skills, adjusting your style to engage different audiences, conveying information effectively, and speaking to employees with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to multitask, prioritizing tasks such as recipe development, maintaining efficiency, and delivering products on time.
- No/low ego, taking direction and feedback well, and focused on achieving the best possible outcome.
- Comfortable working in hot, cool, or cold environments (0-30oC).
- A competitive salary range of $65,000-$80,000 per year, depending on experience.
