Primary and Secondary Physician Assessors Wanted for Nova Scotia Practice Ready Assessment Program

The Nova Scotia Practice Ready Assessment Program (NS PRAP) and Nova Scotia Health Authority are seeking physicians to help bring physicians to underserved areas in Nova Scotia. As a Primary or Secondary Assessor, you will play a crucial role in helping internationally trained physician candidates qualify for licensure.
NS PRAP works with candidates interested in practicing in Nova Scotia but require a practice assessment to be eligible to apply for a defined licence. Each candidate needs successful completion of two 6-week assessments to qualify for licensure. We are seeking assessors for either one or both of the two sessions in a year.
Qualifications- Have a full licence to practice family medicine in Nova Scotia;
- Be in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia;
- Have been practicing family medicine in Canada with a scope of family practice similar to that which PRA candidates are likely to require in underserved communities;
- 5+ years of experience as a primary physician assessor;
- 3+ years of experience as a secondary physician assessor;
- Have national certification (CFPC) in the specialty of family medicine (preferable);
- Have privileges with Nova Scotia Health;
- All assessors must have a faculty appointment with the Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. If you do not have a faculty appointment, you will receive assistance in obtaining one for the purpose of your work with NSPRAP.
- Experience in assessing family medicine residents may be an asset but is not a requirement;
Assessor training precedes the clinical field assessment, which typically takes place in March and September annually.
CompensationAssessors will be paid at the current MSI sessional rate for each 6-week assessment period.
The Nova Scotia Department of Health & Wellness will pay an annual payment to a family physician who is approved by the NSPRAP, and who agrees to be available as reasonably required to act as an assessor and has committed to oversee a practice ready assessment.
