About the Role

The District of North Vancouver is seeking a skilled Arboriculture Specialist to join our Parks Department team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing skilled manual tree hazard mitigation work through the pruning and removal of District trees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled manual tree hazard mitigation work through the pruning and removal of District trees.
  • Climb, remove, prune, and chip a variety of coniferous and deciduous trees using ropes, safety harness, power saws, and other hand tools and machinery.
  • Operate a truck and chipper to transport materials to and from the work site.
  • Provide work direction to others, receive direction, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Exercise proper safety precautions in the performance of work.

Requirements

  • Completion of grade 12 schooling supplemented by post-secondary or other recognized courses related to arboriculture/urban forestry.
  • Considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • OFA Level 1, recognized chainsaw certification, ISA certification (or equivalent), and relevant SkilledTradesBC certification (or equivalent).
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
