Overview
This role is pivotal in steering the creation, execution, and upkeep of educational support services mandated by the Northwest Territories' (NWT) Education Act and the Educational Renewal Framework: Directions for Change, along with the related Action Plans for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (JK-12).


The individual in this position will oversee the transition of Yellowknife Catholic Schools' curriculum from the existing Alberta Curriculum to the British Columbia curriculum as directed by the Department of Education, Culture, and Employment.

Collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning will be essential to enhance assessment practices, instructional strategies, and professional development related to curriculum renewal and technology integration.

This role will also continue to promote observable impact planning in alignment with district priorities such as Inspiring Thinking, Cultivating Well-Being, and Building Relationships.


Qualifications and Experience
Must possess or be eligible for an NWT Teaching Certificate.

A Bachelor of Education Degree is required.

A Master's Degree in school administration or a related field is advantageous.

At least 3 years of experience in a school-based administrative role or equivalent leadership experience is necessary.

Proven experience in leading the development and implementation of district priorities and initiatives.

Experience in guiding a team towards achieving school and/or district objectives.

Demonstrated understanding of educational transformation, curriculum implementation, equity and inclusive education, and technology integration.

Exemplary leadership, communication, presentation, and organizational skills are essential.

A commitment to personal and professional growth in the current leadership context is expected.


Experience in leading the development and implementation of effective practices across curricular areas aligned with the British Columbia curriculum is a plus.

Experience in collaborative work with school administration and staff is required.

A Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory.

Skills and Abilities


Ability to comprehend NWT Indigenous cultures and educational history to integrate traditional knowledge and worldviews into all aspects of the role.

Strong written communication skills for various formats including executive correspondence, policy, and curriculum documentation.

Proficiency in utilizing computer technology for communication and presentations.

Ability to work collaboratively in team settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.


Capability to engage the public in a culturally sensitive manner, both in writing and verbally, while considering diverse literacy levels when creating documents and resources.

Effective time and task management skills are crucial.

Exceptional verbal communication and facilitation abilities are required.
