About Our NICU

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Sinai Health is a Level III and Level II care facility, providing specialized care for infants who require assisted ventilation, intravenous nutrition, intensive cardiorespiratory monitoring, and close nursing and medical care.

Our team provides care for approximately 1,000 neonates each year, guided by the philosophy of Family Integrated Care (FICare). This approach views parents as an integral part of the NICU team, actively participating in their infant's care.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our interdisciplinary team. As a key member of our NICU team, you will provide high-quality patient care, collaborate with healthcare professionals, and contribute to the development of our clinical area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to establish goals and objectives for the program, ensuring high-quality care for our patients.
  • Participate in the development of clinical standards and guidelines, promoting excellence in practice and research.
  • Provide leadership and support to nursing staff, promoting a culture of growth and development.
  • Interpret and foster the philosophy, goals, and standards of the Department of Nursing and Department of Pediatrics.
  • Develop partnerships with community resources, multi-cultural services, and adult and pediatric services to enhance continuity of care for clients.
  • Perform and participate in research activities, implementing and advancing changes in evidence-based practice.
  • Deliver, coordinate, and participate in education and professional development activities/programs involving both staff and clients.
  • Act as a resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree program in nursing and a Nurse Practitioner Certificate or equivalent combined education and experience.
  • Current registration (Extended Class) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution.
  • Paediatric care with NICU staff nursing experience.
  • Proven expertise in the implementation of the Nurse Practitioner role.
  • National Certification Corporation (NCC) Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
  • Membership in Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other organizations relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrated experience through roles of advanced practitioner, educator, researcher, and administration/leadership.
  • Experience precepting and evaluating undergraduate and post-graduate nursing students, as well as clinical fellows.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to sensitively communicate with patients/families in vulnerable situations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills.
  • Excellent organization, time management, program planning, and evaluation skills.
  • Demonstrated decision-making, problem recognition/solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven commitment to collaborative practice and ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to utilize information technology.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
