Janitor (Granville Island)

The Janitorial position is a full-time, permanent role that plays a critical part in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of Granville Island's Public Market, Net Loft, and exterior grounds.
Key Responsibilities- Clean and maintain all public and staff washrooms, ground-level windows, cold storage room, hallways, and other areas as required.
- Stack and place approximately 200 chairs in the seating area.
- Secure Public Market doors at closing, locking 12 doors.
- Report suspected security concerns immediately to Market Office and Island security personnel.
- Change garbage liners and clean garbage containers.
- Transport waste to compactor sites and dispose of it in compactors.
- Clean up spills, breakage, and other messes as required on a daily basis.
- Participate in the annual winter cleaning of the market, including high dusting using scissor lifts and boom lifts.
- Clean windows of high areas, such as rooftops and skylights, as scheduled using scissor lifts and tucker poles.
- A certificate in WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
- A minimum of two years of experience in Institutional/Commercial cleaning or equivalent in training.
- Experience in the use of floor scrubbers, auto scrubbers, high-pressure washers, scissor lifts, boom lifts, floor sweepers, forklifts, wet/dry vacuums, floor drain pumps, and other equipment as needed.
- A Building Maintenance or Building Service Worker certificate.
- Safety knowledge of WCB regulations and the Canada Labour Code.
