Key Responsibilities

- Develop the team's talent base – skills, capabilities, knowledge
- Strategically plan, manage, and coach the team daily
- Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and anticipate obstacles, proposing possible solutions
- Lead projects from beginning to end, including documentation and effective delegation

Research & Development

- Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from diverse sources, assessing data quality
- Provide and deliver innovative tools to drive business value
- Investigate and build on new ratemaking and insurance techniques, sharing findings across the team and organization
- Use data analytics to develop and re-evaluate underwriting appetite, identifying trends in company performance and working with stakeholders

Rate Reviews and Filings

- Coordinate and perform rate reviews on all lines of business, prioritized by the company
- Create rate indications, loss ratio analysis, competitive analysis, complete filings, calculate impacts, using actuarial ratemaking principles and advanced statistical techniques
- Work with Leadership, Underwriting, and IT teams on rate reviews and strategic actions

Data Analytics

- Understand and effectively utilize Heartland's Guidewire systems and their underlying data structures
- Conduct data extraction and exploration, including quote data, billing data, and new experience extractions

Requirements

- A minimum of 5 actuarial exams (FCAS or ACAS an asset)
- Thorough understanding of P&C pricing and ratemaking concepts
- Demonstrated strength in oral, written, and presentation communication skills
- Prior management experience is preferred (working knowledge of Emblem an asset)
