About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure Materials Specialist to join our Specialist Technology, Analysis and Research (STAR) team at Arup. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on infrastructure materials, particularly steel and concrete, to support our national and global projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist advice on durability design, problem investigation, specification writing and review, materials decarbonization strategies, and other related areas.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in particular materials to suit your interests and complement existing expertise within the team.
  • Collaborate with industry and academia on research projects, including the development of new materials and technologies.
  • Contribute to the development of technical, project management, asset management, and business development skills.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable interest in materials engineering for infrastructure projects, and desire to specialize in this area.
  • Knowledge of durability design strategies for steel and reinforced and unreinforced concrete.
  • Proficiency with relevant Canadian and USA standards, and knowledge of materials specifications.
  • Knowledge of sustainability impacts of reinforced concrete and steel over their lifecycle, and knowledge of embodied carbon reduction strategies and related performance impacts.
  • Knowledge of related materials and products, e.g. waterproofing, admixtures and additives.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to engage with standards committees and technical groups from CSA, CISC, American Concrete Institute, ASTM, Post-Tensioning Institute, or similar.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, e.g. site visits.
