About this Opportunity

The University of Victoria is a leading institution in Canada, known for its academic excellence and commitment to diversity and inclusion. As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will be part of the Financial Planning and Operations team, responsible for preparing financial reports and statements for the university and its consolidated entities.

Job Summary

This role requires a Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation with three years of professional experience, as well as in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, with a focus on Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS). The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, working papers, and reports for the university and its related entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare financial reports and statements for the university and its consolidated entities
  • Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with emphasis on Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
  • Research, analyze, and implement the adoption of new accounting standards, considering financial impacts and presentation in financial statements
  • Develop new accounting policies and procedures as required
  • Support the campus community by providing expert-level knowledge on accounting practice and procedure questions and account reconciliation guidance
Requirements
  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation with three years of professional experience
  • In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, with a focus on Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and experience in a large, diverse, and sophisticated accounting environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills to varied audiences
Assets or Preferences
  • Experience with Banner Finance and FAST Finance
  • Working knowledge of SQL
