In this role as Specimen Collection Specialist, you will play a critical part in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by collecting and preparing specimens for laboratory testing. LifeLabs, a leading provider of laboratory diagnostic information, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join its team.

Job Description

As a Specimen Collection Specialist, you will be responsible for greeting patients, explaining the specimen collection process, and ensuring that patients have followed necessary test protocols prior to specimen collection. You will also perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and complete related documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing, including blood samples and other biological materials.
  • Interact with patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure that patients have followed necessary test protocols prior to specimen collection.
  • Maintain accurate records of specimen collections, including patient demographics and test results.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent related experience such as working as a healthcare professional with previous training or experience in phlebotomy, intravenous infusion and/or intravenous therapy (e.g. nurses, infusion therapist, cardiac technologist etc.).
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Proficient data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
Salary Range

The salary range for this role is $45,000 - $65,000 per year, based on location and experience. We offer a comprehensive total rewards program, including:
