Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing ultrasound examinations on patients, observing patient safety practices, and working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Perform abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, and small parts ultrasound examinations, adhering to departmental standards and professional practice guidelines.
- Receive and complete requisitions, entering relevant data into the diagnostic imaging information system, and preparing patients for specific procedures.
- Conduct examinations utilizing ultrasound and Doppler techniques, labeling permanent records, and archiving acquired data.
- Assist in procedural rooms, setting up biopsy trays, assisting radiologists during interventional procedures, and providing support and comfort to patients.
- Check resultant images for technical quality and completeness, prepare technical worksheets, and discuss images with radiologists to ensure examinations meet designated requirements.
- Facilitate workflow by checking information on requisitions, regulating inpatient examination time, and arranging for patient transportation according to departmental procedure.
- Monitor equipment performance, perform quality control duties, and notify supervisors of equipment malfunctions.
- Demonstrate procedures and equipment usage to staff, including medical residents, technologists, and students.
- Participate in orientation of new employees, ensuring policies and procedures are respected.
- Enter data into diagnostic imaging and hospital information systems as required.
- Participate in approved research and special projects in collaboration with supervisors and other healthcare professionals.
- Graduate of a recognized training program in Medical Diagnostic Sonography.
- Certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for Sonography procedures, including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, and small parts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic techniques and safe work procedures with diagnostic sonographic and medical imaging equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform sonographic examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, coworkers, physicians, and other healthcare staff.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and work independently and collaboratively with others.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities and perform CPR techniques.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
