Black & McDonald's Southern Ontario team is expanding its operations, and we're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will play a crucial role in driving business growth and success.

Job Summary

The Chief Estimator will be responsible for leading a team of estimators in preparing accurate and competitive bids for mechanical construction projects. You will work closely with our project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure that our estimates meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of estimators in preparing estimates for mechanical construction projects, including industrial, commercial, government, and institutional markets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, engineers, and architects to ensure that our estimates meet their needs and expectations.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure that estimates are accurate and meet project requirements.
  • Develop and implement estimating procedures and processes to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Conduct site reviews and tender reviews to ensure that estimates are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Oversee the maintenance of a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure that estimates are accurate and meet project requirements.
  • Prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Maintain an industry presence to ensure continuity of work and business growth.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technology and industry developments to ensure that estimates include the latest construction methods and procedures.
Requirements
  • 15-20 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of a $10M value or higher.
  • Graduate of Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience, or qualified tradesperson in mechanical field with several years' experience and previous estimating experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of contract management, construction scheduling, planning, and execution, trade fluency, organization, and time management.
  • Self-driven leadership abilities and ability to work with deadlines.
  • P.Eng. or CET would be considered an asset.
  • Project management experience is an asset.
