Job Title: Occupational Therapist - Acute Care Unit

North York General Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic team in the Acute Care Unit. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in evaluating and assessing patients' functional strengths and weaknesses, developing and implementing treatment plans, and collaborating with the inter-professional team to ensure patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and assess patients' physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status to identify needs and capabilities.
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the inter-professional team.
  • Provide education to patients and families, as required.
  • Formulate discharge plans with patients, families, and the health care team, utilizing appropriate community resources.
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of and close liaison with hospital and community resources.
  • Advocate for patients and families to ensure their rights are recognized and appropriate services are created and provided.
  • Foster an environment that promotes patient and family-centered care and inter-professional collaboration.
  • Maintain documentation on patient health records and communicate with other health care team members, as required.
  • Supervise and collaborate with Rehabilitation Assistants to develop and modify treatment plans.
  • Act as a Preceptor to occupational therapy students, teach other students, and supervise volunteers.
  • Promote best practices and evidence-based care through the implementation of initiatives aligned with the organization's strategic direction.
Qualifications:
  • As required by COTO, a degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized school.
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Current BLS required.
  • Three years' experience in occupational therapy practice, in an out-patient hospital environment preferred.
  • Experience with memory disorder clinics.
  • Experience with orthopedic conditions is required.
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset.
