Alberta Health Services provides comprehensive forensic mental health services in Edmonton and Northern Alberta, serving as the largest forensic mental health service in the region. Our services are divided between the outpatient component, based at Forensic Assessment and Community Services (FACS), and the inpatient component, based at Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE).

Our forensic service offers assessment and treatment services for individuals involved with criminal courts in the region, as well as the Criminal Code Review Board of Alberta (CCRB). We also provide psychiatric care for inmates in correctional facilities within Northern Alberta.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team at Forensic Assessment and Community Services (FACS). The successful candidate will provide treatment to offenders referred by probation, under the Criminal Code Review Board, and assessments of individuals as requested by the court.

The delivery of this care will involve working within a multidisciplinary team. The candidate will have opportunities to devote time to providing psychiatric services to individuals in provincial correctional facilities, providing continuity of care for individuals between correctional facilities and in the community at the FACS clinic.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment and treatment services for individuals involved with criminal courts in the region
  • Assess individuals for fitness to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and pre-sentence risk assessments
  • Provide testimony in court or at CCRB hearings as required
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver care
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for offenders
Qualifications
  • Training in forensic psychiatry
  • Ability to work as a fully qualified psychiatrist in Canada

Remuneration is fee for service.
