Alberta Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team at Forensic Assessment and Community Services (FACS) in Edmonton. As a Forensic Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing assessment and treatment services to individuals involved with criminal courts in the region, as well as the Criminal Code Review Board of Alberta (CCRB).
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver care to offenders who are referred by probation, are under the Criminal Code Review Board, as well as assessments of individuals as requested by the court. You will also have opportunities to devote time to providing psychiatric services to individuals in provincial correctional facilities, providing continuity of care for individuals between correctional facilities and in the community at the FACS clinic.
Courts often refer individuals for assessment of fitness to stand trial, criminal responsibility, as well as pre-sentence risk assessments to the FACS clinic. The successful candidate will be expected to complete these assessments and provide testimony in court, or at CCRB hearings, as required. Support will be provided to assist overseas candidates in transitioning to the unique elements of the Canadian criminal justice system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing assessment and treatment services to individuals involved with criminal courts
- Working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver care to offenders
- Providing psychiatric services to individuals in provincial correctional facilities
- Completing assessments and providing testimony in court or at CCRB hearings
Qualifications:
- Training in forensic psychiatry
- The ability to work as a fully qualified psychiatrist in the UK or Ireland
Salary/Benefits: Remuneration is fee for service
