Railserve Switchperson

Railserve, Canada is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Switchperson to join our diverse team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of rail cars and locomotives.

• Operate electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives to transport freight and switch rail cars.
• Interpret train orders, signals, and rules and regulations to ensure compliance and safety.
• Apply and release hand brakes to secure or move equipment, and handle air hoses, wheel chocks, and coupling and uncoupling of rail cars.
• Work collaboratively with crew leaders, assistant site leaders, site leaders, regional leaders, and other members of the Railserve management team to achieve operational goals.

• High School diploma (or equivalent) preferred but not required.
• Military experience helpful.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to work well with others as part of a team in a cooperative manner.
• Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

This incumbent regularly works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
