Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team at Vantage Living Inc. as a key member of our food services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to our residents, while maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals for residents, adhering to standardized recipes and menu plans;
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including receiving and storing food products, and following inventory control procedures;
  • Ensure all staff involved in meal service observe safe food handling procedures and maintain a safe and positive dining experience for residents and their guests;
  • Work with the dietician to fulfill special diet requirements and therapeutic meals, and prepare daily snacks, including baked goods and beverages;
  • Participate in food service evaluation and conduct food and service audits within the kitchen and dining room;
  • Work within the food services operating budget and maintain accurate records related to food and supply purchases, inventory control, receiving, portion control, and wastage.

Requirements

  • Experience in volume cooking, preferably in a restaurant environment;
  • Formal culinary training an asset;
  • Food Safe - Level II certification required;
  • Solid understanding of customer-centered service provision consistent with the intent and philosophy of assisted living and in support of exemplary service delivery;
  • Ability to organize and prepare nutritious and appealing meals with minimal supervision and respond to the changing needs and preferences of residents;
  • Interest and motivation to enhance cooking and kitchen management skills under the direction of a trained Chef;
  • Knowledge of provincial health, sanitation, and safety regulations.
