About the Role

The Building Code Examiner will be responsible for examining permit applications, plans, and specifications for construction, renovation, and demolition of buildings to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and applicable municipal by-laws. This role will also involve processing and issuing permits, providing technical guidance and interpretations, and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine permit applications, plans, and specifications for compliance with the Ontario Building Code and applicable municipal by-laws
  • Process and issue permits for construction, renovation, and demolition of buildings
  • Provide technical guidance and interpretations to stakeholders regarding the Ontario Building Code and applicable municipal by-laws
  • Maintain accurate records and reports
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A three-year college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline
  • Registration as a Building Official with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • A valid Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Qualifications in the following categories as defined under Part 3, Division C of the Building Code from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing: Building Services; Building Structural; Complex Buildings; General/Legal Process; Large Buildings; On-site Sewage Systems; Plumbing – All Buildings; Small Buildings
  • Eligibility for and willingness to obtain and maintain the Certified Building Code Official (CBCO) Designation from the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA)
