We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Veterinary Intern to join our team at Assiniboine Park Conservancy. As a key member of our Animal Health Management Team, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of animal species and contribute to the development of preventative and emergency health care programs.

As a Veterinary Intern, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and participating in the physical and chemical restraint of animals for examination and treatment. You will also create diagnostic and treatment plans for veterinary patients, perform diagnostic, medical, or surgical treatments on animals, and conduct regularly scheduled immunization and preventive health care programs to maintain the health of animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in the physical and chemical restraint of animals for examination and treatment.
  • Create diagnostic and treatment plans for veterinary patients.
  • Perform diagnostic, medical, or surgical treatments on animals.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled immunization and preventive health care programs to maintain the health of animals.
  • Monitor all zoonotic diseases and their impact on the collection and staff.
  • Participate in zoonotic disease training opportunities for Animal Care and Veterinary staff.

Requirements:

  • Must hold a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from a recognized educational institute (in good standing).
  • A minimum one (1) year of post-graduate clinical experience.
  • Experience involving work with zoo(s) or exotic animals is preferred.
  • Eligibility for licensing as a veterinarian in the Province of Manitoba.
